Feast of the English Martyrs on May 4, 2015

This Feast is celebrated in North America uniquely by the Ordinariate. This was the first of the evening “special liturgies,” celebrated in the upper church at Saint Patrick’s parish Stoneham and which were such a notable feature of our life there, to include a schola of professional singers. Appropriate to the Feast the setting of the Mass was William Byrd‘s Mass for Three Voices, composed during Elizabeth’s reign for the use of recusant Catholics being served by fugitive Seminary Priests…many of whom, Priests and laity, gave up their lives for their Faith.
