The opportunities for serving God and His Church in a practical way at Saint Gregory the Great Church are many and varied. Here is a selection — but it is by no means exhaustive. If one appeals to you and/or you have an idea, let us know!
Acolytes: assist in the celebration of Mass as servers and also in specialized roles such as Crucifers; Thurifers; and Torchbearers. If instituted, they may also serve as Eucharistic Ministers, if required, to distribute the Blessed Sacrament both during Mass and to sick and shut-ins after Mass.
Altar Guild: This group is devoted to care of the sacred vessels, vestments, and other appointments for our liturgies as well as insuring proper stores of necessary supplies. Guild members, working as a team or individually, prepare and set up for Mass and bring order to the Sanctuary and Sacristy afterwards.
Flower Guild: This group, under the direction of Pam Covert, is devoted to beautifying the Altar with floral and other arrangements throughout the year.
Lectors: read the First and Second Lessons at Mass and may assist in or lead non-Eucharistic liturgies. Ed Finglas coordinates the lectors. The current schedule is here and more information for lectors is here.
Liturgical Art Guild: members adorn the Sanctuary through various arts to beautify and enhance worship. Read more about our sacred art here.
Musicians: Our organist is Jim Reedy. We occasionally have other instrumentalists; singers (both cantors; other soloists; and choir members).
Ushers/Greeters: make sure the pew missals, weekly inserts, and any other printed materials are in the Church before Mass time; insure individuals are present who will bring forward the gifts at the Offertory; welcome and seat worshipers; orient visitors; collect and process the offering; and assist in other ways as necessary.
